While the magazine is being printed, I created a mockup of what the cover and what the first couple of pages will look like.
The Lesser Light To Rule The Night magazine is being printed right now. So in the meantime, I created a mockup of the cover and of the first couple of pages to show what it will look like. I am so pleased with how it turned out. It looks amazing. I ended up with the magazine and the twelve images in the magazine. I am happy with how all twelve of the photos turned out.
If you aren’t familiar with who I am, my name is Nick, I’m a photography, and I am a very soon to be graduate of Brigham Young University-Idaho. This project is part of a final project for my professional photography class at BYU-Idaho. My goal for the project was to capture awesome astrophotography and light painting astrophotography photos and to use them to design a magazine article. I printed the magazine at a local print shop, it looks amazing.
Highlights from the Blog Posts
Here are a few of the highlights from the two blog posts I did of the Astrophotography. You can see the Light Painting post and Astrophotography post by clicking on these links.
The Written Plan
Here is the Personal Style Project plan I had created for this project. I knew I always wanted to do Astrophotography like these that my photography mentor and class teacher took. When it came time to pick a project for this Personal Style Project, I thought this would be a great thing to do. I originally proposed just astrophotography but I added light painting and creating a magazine to it upon my teachers recommendation. I had planned to also do a large print of one of the best images but decided to cut this since the magazine design and print was such a big project.

If you were to tell me a few months ago that I would have captures beautiful photos of incredible astrophotography, I wouldn’t have believed it.
I went up to Craters of the Moon National Park and took photos of incredible astrophotography. These photos of the milky way with the tens of thousands of stars I could see are both inspiring and breath-taking. I couldn’t believe how amazing and beautiful the night sky was at Craters of the Moon.
Craters of the Moon is one of the best places in the world for astrophotography, and the best in Idaho. There, the cloud coverage is minimal if any and the light pollution from nearby towns and cities is almost non-existent since the closest city is almost 100 miles away. I drove about 2 hours to get there, and it was worth it.
I took these photos as part of a project for my Comm 316 Professional Imaging class at Brigham Young University Idaho. My personal Style Project was taking astrophotography and light painting astrophotography and printing a 14 page magazine to showcase the photos. I will post about the magazine later this week.
These photos are breathtaking reminders of the vastness of the universe and the awe inspiring beauty of it.

I went to Craters of the Moon and took amazing light painting astrophotography.
Light Painting Astrophotography is a really fun form of photography and if done well and at the right location on the day day at the right time with the right conditions, you come back with some really awesome photos.
I went to Craters of the Moon National Park in Central Idaho because I read that it is the best place in Idaho for Astrophotography and one of the best places international for it. I think they rank that based on cloud coverage, light pollution, visibility of the milky way on a clear night. I went on the night of July 9th and was out from about 11pm until about 4am the next day. This was an incredible experience for me.
I chose to do this for my personal style project in a professional photography class I am taking at Brigham Young University Idaho. I wanted to try Astrophotography for a long time so I thought, if the conditions are right, I will do it for the class personal project.
These pictures show the vastness of the universe in an unparalleled way. The milky way is truly a gorgeous sight to behold. Light painting objects around create a wonderful sense of perspective and of a virtual experience.

Portfolio Post of some of my best photos from COMM 316 Professional Photography at BYU-I
This is a post of my COMM 316 Best Photos. The past four months, during my last semester at Brigham Young University-Idaho, I have been taking a class on Professional Photography. It has been both inspiring and enlightening to take this class and learn amazing photography techniques and skills from amazing photographers teaching the class and from students in the class.
Another part of the class that has really been beneficial was to try to figure out what my personal style is and how this will be used going forward, as a career or as a side gig, or just as a hobby. At this point, I have no plans for the photography talent I have gained other than to use as a hobby, to take some cool photos of me and my family and while I am out and about in nature or in other environments of life. There’s a possibility that I could find a way to use it as a side gig, but for now I am going to focus on my career in Television Broadcast Technical Operations(in my position in Master Control) and on my budding family and newborn daughter.
Here are some of the best photos I’ve taken during this class.
Stunning Photography of Architecture at the Riverfront Retreat in Island Park, Idaho.
For this project, I took architecture photos of the Riverfront Retreat in Island Park, Idaho. This is an amazing cabin to photograph and to stay in. It is situated right along the river and makes for a wonderful stay. The owner rents out part of the house(some of these photos are front the AirBNB rooms.
This cabin boasts large living rooms, dining rooms, and outdoor gathering areas. With the Buffalo River flowing right along the property, the views are astonishing. From within the house, you might wake up to see a deer, elk, or moose grazing on the grass outside. The architecture riverfront retreat has to offer makes any stay or event here something to remember.

Learn the Phone Photography tricks and tips I learned at Yellowstone National Park
Phones have been a useful tool since they were first invented, but today, they are much more than a miraculous way to talk over distances. The phones we have today, like the iPhone 12 I used to take these photos, can be used to watch movies, talk to people on the other side of the world with video conferencing, perform complex processing and calculations, record high definition video, and take amazing photos. Check out these awesome and easy tips for taking great phone photography.
There are a lot of tricks and tips to get great photos with phones. Recently, phone operating systems like iOS have added really advanced featured. This is a panorama photo of a lake in Yellowstone National Park with a great reflection of the mountain. These are really easy to take and create a nice wide angle.
This is a trick called lens compression. If you stand back and use your figures to zoom in, the background(in this case the mountain) becomes bigger. This makes for great looking photos.
This is a trick to blur motion. This is a river in Yellowstone. Taking a regular photo is nice, but you can do better. By taking a live photo(and trying to hold still) you can change it to a long exposure photo of the river, smoothing the water for a cool effect. This is an iPhone hack for taking a long exposure photo with a fancy camera.
This is another cool feature the iPhone has. By switching the phone camera into portrait mode, you force the camera to have a low aperture, giving the photo a shallow depth of field. This makes the camera focus on the subject and blur the background for a really cool effect.

Often there are a lot of accessories that the models have that can be photographed separately or on the models but making the accessory the subject. In taking these photos, we used various lighting and natural lighting to get the perfect tone and perfect combination of light to make our models look beautiful.

Great Shots from my themed venue men fashion photography shoot.
I recently did a photoshoot with fashion models at a venue near my city. The models look great and the venue was amazing, but that didn’t mean I would automatically get great photos. I had to get creative, try new angles, use lights to make something extraordinary, and pose the models in creative ways. This article will feature some of my best photos from my themed venue men fashion photography shoot.
These photos consist of three different models from the themed venue men fashion photography shoot. They are Groom, Guy working out, and Guy playing guitar.
When I did this photo shoot, we used various kinds of lighting and angels, in addition to the natural light.
